The International Olympic Committee has shortened the preliminary list of Russian athletes that can perform in the Winter Olympic Games 2018 in Pyeongchang. Out of the 500 athletes, 389 were so far allowed to participate, according to the IOC press service.
It is noted that in the established pool of clean athletes, over 80% didn’t participate in the Sochi games. The 389 athletes who remain in the pool of athletes will have to pass further pre-Games tests and reanalysis from stored samples that have been required.
The IOC notes that this is the new generation of Russian athletes, who weren’t caught on cheating in the previous games.
The IOC has also recommended dismissing 51 coaches and 10 medical staff from the competition.
The ultimate list of Russian athletes who are able to compete in the upcoming Olympic Games will be published on Jan. 27.
