IOC confirms holding of Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo despite Covid-19 spread

The International Olympic Committee urges athletes to continue preparation for the competition

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) does not plan to cancel the holding of the summer Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo due to the spread of coronavirus, as the IOC reports.

“The IOC EB encourages all athletes to continue to prepare for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. The IOC will keep supporting the athletes by providing the latest information and developments, which are accessible for athletes worldwide,” the message said.

It is noted that the IOC supports all measures of the task group on the preparation for the Olympic Games 2020.

The Olympic Games 2020 will take place in Tokyo from July 24 until August 9.

Earlier it was reported that the Olympic Games 2020 might take place without an audience due to the Covid-19. It was offered to broadcast the competition online. Besides, it was noted that $12 billion were spent on the preparation for the event.

As we reported, due to the hundreds of cases of infection with Covid-19 in Europe, famous Dutch virologist Ab Osterhaus doubted the feasibility of coming of dozens of thousands of people all over the world to Rotterdam for Eurovision-2020 until the spread of the virus is under control.

Eurovision representative Danny Wormer said that the Dutch broadcaster is guided by RIVM - National Institute for public health and the environment, not worlds of Mr. Osterhaus.
