The Division 1 match between Ukraine and Hungary opens the world hockey championship in Palace of Sports in Kyiv on April 22.
The hockey system of world championships is different from football. All national teams are split into four divisions depending on the teams’ level. First division, where Ukrainian team is playing, includes A and B groups. Group A will be playing in Kyiv, while group B will hold matches in Irish Belfast. Group A will be fighting for the chance to get into top-division of world hockey and not being knocked out in Group B, which, in turn, strives to get into Group A.
Ukraine’s national team managed to win IB division and rank up in class. Kyiv residents bought out all tickets for the matches of Ukrainian team, which should also add optimist to the event.
The IIHF World Hockey Championships Division 1A will be held in Kyiv from 22 to 28 April. Six teams – Hungary, Kazakhstan, Poland, Austria, Korea and host Ukraine – will battle it out for promotion to the top division for the 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship that will take place in Copenhagen and Herning, Denmark.
