The Office of President of Ukraine insists that the "Glory to Ukraine" slogan on the kit of the national football team should not cause any limitations. Press department of the Office reported that as cited by Ukrainska Pravda outlet.
"The Ukrainian state respects principles of work employed by international sport organiations like UEFA, and the decisions that these should pass withour any political influence or interference. Our footballers will be trying to glorify their country on the European fields. This is why "Glory to Ukraine" slogan on the national team kit is quite appropriate and cannot cause any limitations. And when every Ukrainian who is a true patriot hears "Glory to Ukraine", the reply appears in his subconsiousness - "Glory to heroes!". This phrase is written in the soul of every Ukrainian", the Office claimed.
UEFA turned to the Ukrainian Association of Football, requesting to submit changes to the design of the national football team's kit.
According to France Press, prior to UEFA Euro 2020, the squad's technical sponsor Joma presented the new kit. The desing included the map of Ukraine with the Russia-annexed Crimea and two slogans: "Glory to Ukraine!" and "Glory to Heroes!". The new kit's release caused enormous outrage in Russia. The Russians sent a request to UEFA, but the Association replied that everything was fine about it.
However, it appears that the Association changed its mind in this particular issue. The Ukrainian Association of Football received the letter from UEFA with the demand to remove the "Glory to Heroes!" slogan. The UEFA claimed that the Ukrainian map with Crimea does not violate anything, since these are the internationally recognized borders of this country. "Glory to Ukraine!" slogan, if used separately from "Glory to Heroes" is not considered political, so it remains on the kit; otherwise, it has political context to it, UEFA said.
