The UEFA-Gazprom contract does not provide a possibility to take away a logo of the Russian company from the Lobanovskyi stadium bowl and NSC Olimpiyskiy, as Ihor Zhdanov, Ukraine’s Minister of Youth and Sports, said after the meeting with Martin Kallen, UEFA Events SA CEO, Ukrinform reports.
“Yes, I have been to the stadium and saw it (Gazprom’s logo, - ed.). I conducted last talks on this issue yesterday (May 24, - ed.) with Martin Kallen, UEFA Events SA CEO, who explained that there is the UEFA-Gazprom contract, which is the primary sponsor. Unfortunately, I have been told that this is impossible,” Zhdanov noted.
According to him, the representatives of UEFA assured that they understand the situation and there was an opportunity to take away logos in Kyiv, but it is harder to do this at the stadiums – this is what the contract says.
As it is known, on May 15 NSC Olympiyskiy passed the management of the preparations to the Champions League 2018 to UEFA, which deals with all the issues connected with the preparation of the stadium to the game.
Gazprom became a sponsor of Champions League in 2012. In 2018, Gazprom’s contract with UEFA was prolonged till 2021.
The Champions League 2018 Final is to be held on May 26, 2018. Liverpool and Real will meet at the stadium to play the big game.
