Dnipro city and Dnipro-Arena stadium hosted a friendly football game between the national teams of Ukraine and Northern Ireland. The match took place on June 3.
The home team took control over the ball early and opened the score just ten minutes into the first half. Oleksandr Karavayev delivered a cross from the right flank, and Oleksandr Zubkov turned it home with the header. Oleksandr Yarmolenko could have scored as well, but Bailey Peacock-Farrell secured the ball repeatedly after his shots.
In the second half, the guests managed to get their act together and took the game to the centre of the pitch. Ukrainians switched tactics and went for counterattacks. Yarmolenko tried his luck again, with the assist from Heorhiy Sudakov, but the Irish goalkeeper deflected his shot again. Artem Besedin could have doubled the score in the extra time - and he actually did, but the referee observed an off-side.
On June 13, Ukraine's national team will start its performance at Euro 2020. In their opener, the Yellow Blues will stand against the Dutch.
