Ukraine’s national football team will hold a sparring match against Malta. According to the head coach Andriy Shevchenko, the game is scheduled for June 6.
‘We’ve done working on the schedule of training sessions of the national team. The squad will gather in Austria in early June; the friendly with Malta is to take place on June 6 in Austria, since our opponents wanted to play at a neutral pitch. After the game, we’ll stay there to prepare for the game against Finns. Then, we’ll head to Finland. Malta suits us well; they somehow resemble the Finnish team. They adhere to defensive style and keep the ball on their half of the pitch a lot, and they do not allow many goals. They are well-organized and well-disciplined, and it will be a good sparring to let us build our strategy in the qualification match,’ Shevchenko told the press.
Previously, Ukraine lost to Croatia 0-1 in the home qualification game for FIFA World Cup 2018. The team’s current situation in the overall standings is not yet critical; however, Andriy Shevchenko’s team badly needs a victory over Finns to have decent chances to continue the struggle.
