Acting UEFA Secretary General Theo Theodoridis said that the organization is satisfied with the extending of the participants' amount on Euro 2016 to 24 teams and may consider another extending up to 32 teams in 2024, Gazeta.ru reports.
"On the Iceland example we can see a positive influence of the extension of the amount of the participants in European Football Championship in 2016. It is useful for the other teams and for the football history. It becomes boring to see the same 8 teams in the Finals. The extension of the participants number led to the increasing of the tournament level and gave the opportunity for more people to dream of something bigger", Theodoridis said.
