The UEFA’s appeal committee considered the case of the cancellation of the Switzerland-Ukraine League of Nations match and awarded the Ukrainian national team a technical defeat. The committee's decision is published on the website.
"The Chairman of the UEFA Appeals Body today took the following decision: to declare the 2020/21 UEFA Nations League match between Switzerland and Ukraine, that was scheduled to be played on 17 November 2020, as forfeited by the Ukrainian Association of Football (who is therefore deemed to have lost the match 3-0)," statement informs.
Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) is going to appeal this decision.
"After receiving the operative part of the decision of the UEFA’s appeal committee, the UAF declares its categorical disagreement with it and its intention to appeal this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne immediately after receiving the full text of the decision with a reasoning part," Vice-President of the UAF, General Secretary of the association Yuriy Zapisotsky said.
As we reported earlier, UEFA decided to cancel game of Nations League because of the spike of coronavirus incidence in the Ukrainian team.
At that, both teams have been ready for the match. But the actual circumstances are worrying: on Tuesday, three Ukrainian players, Ruslan Malynovsky, Junior Moraes and Serhiy Kryvtsov passed positive tests. Prior to that, seven of their teammates got sick with Covid-19.
