As Ukraine's national football team is to face Japan in the friendly game in Belgium on March 27, coach Andriy Shevchenko shared his vision of the upcoming fixture with the press.
'As for the game with Japan... we've got quite an opponent here. The teams have different goals; the Japanese are getting ready for the World Cup, while we create the foundation for development, watching the game of new, young players. Unfortunately, two of them got injured, so we're now considering options of substitutions. We've got to learn how to get this will to win', he said.
'You cannot just compare Saudi Arabia and Japan. The Japanese are stronger, they are a team from the more powerful league; they have decent players performing in Europe, specifically in England and Germany. When playing against them, we will need more efforts and we'll have to stay focused. It is the focus that we lacked in the game with Saudia Arabia,' Shevchenko concluded.
Previously, Ukraine and Saudi Arabia tied a draw in the friendly game; head coach Andriy Shevchenko said he was disappointed with the outcome.
