Frank Warren, one of England's biggest promoters, who represents Joe Joyce, is excited about his client's potential clash with the WBO mandatory contender Oleksandr Usyk, BoxingScene reports.
“We are trying to get that fight sorted out. We would like to get that fight between Joe and Usyk out sometime in April. It is a cracking fight. It is a great opportunity for Joe as it is for me. It is a tough fight for Joe,” said Warren.
The boxing promoter believes that it will put his fight in the right spot in the heavyweight division.
“The Usyk fight puts Joe in the right place at the right time. Believe me, Usyk is no schmuck and it is not guaranteed that my guy wins no questions asked (Usyk beat Joyce in a 2013 World Series of Boxing event). It is a really good fight for the fans and puts the winner in a great position to challenge for the undisputed heavyweight championship,” he added.
As we reported earlier, Usyk's bout against Joyce will allow Anthony Joshua, the division unified champion, to face fellow heavyweight champion Tyson Fury in an unprecedented bout for all major belts.
