On Monday, October 9, Ukraine’s national football team hosts Croatians. The game will kick off at NSC Olimpiysky in Kyiv in the evening. The Round 10 fixture is going to seal the fate of both teams in this qualification; it’s either Ukraine or Croatia who follows Iceland, the Group I winners, to the group stage of the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia.
Before this final fixture, Ukraine and Croatia have equal number of points; thus, whoever wins, triumphantly marches to the World Cup, while the opponent is eliminated from the playoffs.
- Iceland – 19 pts
- Croatia – 17
- Ukraine – 17
- Turkey – 14
- Finland – 8
- Kosovo – 1
Ukraine is eager to have revenge on Croatia, which beat the Yellow Blues in the home game in Zagreb (1-0). Given several injuries in the line-up of Zlatko Dalic’s team, and relying on the good shape of their own wingers, Andriy Shevchenko’s men really can put up a fight. However, it is going to be tough, as Croatians have enough class and experience to keep away their opponent from proceeding – especially now that it’s only up to these two teams.
