During the first stage of the Tour de France, a fan with a poster came too close to the track and caused a massive accident, Eurosport reports.

Tony Martin (Jumbo–Visma) was hit by a placard as a fan attempted to crane their way on to the TV coverage. It caused a huge pile-up that brought down most of the rest of the peloton, with Wout van Aert, Primoz Roglic (both Jumbo–Visma), Sonny Colbrelli (Bahrain Victorious) and Marc Soler (Movistar) coming down hard.

As a result of the fall, Mark Soler suffered a fracture of the radial bone head in both arms. After the fall, he did not retire and finished the race in 181st place.
