Bucharest hosted the Euro 2020 game of Ukraine's national team against the squad from North Macedonia.
The Ukrainian team started lively, giving their opponent's goalkeeper a lot of work. The Yellow Blues kept attacking until they scored twice; first, Andriy Yarmolenko turned the ball home after Oleksandr Karavayev's finesse pass. Then, Yarmolenko assisted Roman Yaremchuk who easily outplayed goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski.
The Macedonians fought back. In the second half, they swarmed near Georgiy Bushchan's goals. Their pressure eventually proved successful: Karavaev downed Goran Pandev in the penalty area, and the referree pointed to the spot. Bushchan deflected the ball, but it ricocheted to the Macedonian who scored, making the score 2-1.
Ukrainians had another great chance to improve their score shortly before the full time. A referee saw that a Macedonian defender touched the ball with his arm in the penalty area. But Dimitrievski parried Ruslan Malynovsky's shot.
The Macedonians tried to make it a tie, but Andriy Shevchenko's men held their lines.
Now, the Ukrainian team has a chance to make it to the competition's playoffs.
