Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina won the opening match at the WTA Finals, held in Singapore.
With a score of 6: 3, 6: 3, she defeated Czech player Petra Kvitova. This is Svitolina's first victory over Kvitova since 2014. At the moment the score in personal meetings is 7: 2 in favor of the Czech.
Earlier Ukraine's No.1 in tennis Elina Svitolina has been eliminated from the US Open. She lost the fixture in the Round of Last 16, where her opponent was Anastasia Sevastova.
Svitolina lost in two of the three sets (6:3, 1:6, 6:0). She could not even play a single break point, although after the second set it seemed she came back and could compete for the quarterfinals.
Another Ukrainian athlete, Lesya Tsurenko, also made it to the Round of Last 16 by beating the famous Danish Caroline Wozniacki; on Monday evening, she will stand against Czech Marketa Vondrusova.
Also Svitolina refused to speak to Eurosport Russia journalist after the victory in Round 1 of the US Open. The outlet's producer Maksim Yanchevsky reported that via Twitter. 'Elina Svitolina refused to speak to Eurosport Russia on the court after the victory in Round 1 of the US Open. She said 'I'm sorry, I can't' (in Russian) as she exited the court. In January 2018, everything was fine,' Yanchevsky wrote.
