Hero of the day
His name is Pita Taufatofua. He is the only representative of the island state of Tonga at the Winter Olympics and he attracted a lot of attention both before the Olympics and during the opening ceremony.
Before the Olympics, he became famous for his story. Pita participated in the last Summer Olympic Games as a Taekwondo player. But it was not enough for this ambitious representative of Tong - he decided to challenge himself at the Winter Games too.
Pita was retrained to be a skier and will participate in cross-country skiing competitions.
At the 2018 Olympics, he did a thing he got remembered for at the opening of the Summer Games 2016.
He covered himself with oil and with bare torso carried the flag during the parade of the countries participating in the Olympics.
If it was unusual at Summer Games, given the weather, it's quite "why not, if there are such traditions." But in winter in PyeongChang at below zero temperature, this caused little concern for the health of the athlete.
The scene of the day
The passage of athletes from South and North Korea at the opening ceremony of the Games under a single flag was quite touching. It is truly a historical moment.
