Ukrainian Victor Postol (31-2, 12 KOs) and WBC and WBO welterweight champion Jose Carlos Ramirez (25-0, 17 KOs) will face each other on May 9. This was reported by an authoritative insider Mike Coppinger.
“Sources: Jose Ramirez’s unified title defense vs. Viktor Postol will headline ESPN on May 9 in Fresno, California, the city near Ramirez’s hometown where he has fought eight times as a pro. Ramirez-Postol was slated for Feb. 1 in China, but was postponed due to coronavirus outbreak," Coppinger stated.
Postol, who held the title of WBC light-welterweight World Champion in 2015-2016, will finally get another chance at acclaiming his position at the top of the light-welterweight division. For Ramirez, it will be a mandatory title defense after winning the WBO title in a unification bout against Maurice Hooker.
As we reported earlier, according to Eddie Hear, Oleksandr Usyk's co-promoter, the long-awaited bout between the Ukrainian boxer and Dereck Chisora will probably take place in England, at the O2 Arena, on May 23.
