WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo successfully defended his world title in an intense back-and-forth bout against Ukrainian contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko.
The title match lasted all 12 rounds, Derevyanchenko was active, tried to apply more pressure, but a cut over his left eye did not let the Ukrainian pugilist utilize all of his tools. As a result, a unanimous victory for Charlo - 116-112, 117-111, 118-110.
"Excellent fight. Sergiy is a tough opponent. The fight against Derevyanchenko was a difficult test for my career. Of course, I wanted to knock him out, but you cannot knock out every single fighter," said Charlo.
As we reported earlier, Oleksandr Usyk (17-0, 13 KOs) will finally face Dereck Chisora (32-9, 23 KOs) on October 31.
It will Usyk's second fight at the new weight category. He is coming off a victory over Chazz Witherspoon. The Ukrainian fighter has not stepped in the ring ever since.
Chisora's last bout took place on October 26, 2019 - he TKOd David Price in the fourth round.
