On September 14, WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo (30-0, 22 KOs) conducted an open workout on the eve of the upcoming title defense against the Ukrainian contender Serhiy Derevyanchenko (13-2, 10 KOs), NY Fights reports.
Charlo praised his preparation and promised to bring even more power in the ring for his next bout.
“My power is growing along with me. With some fights, you need to add more power and sometimes your power just naturally increases. I have gotten a lot stronger and a lot smarter, so I have been able to use my skills to go along with my power heading into this fight," he said.
The unbeaten champion also gave his assessment of Derevyanchenko's skills, doubting the technical aspect of his opponent's approach.
“Derevyanchenko is a come forward fighter. He’s going to bring a lot of power and speed with good technical skills. He calls himself ‘The Technician’ but we’ll see how technical he is once I start putting my jab in his face. I’m going to use all my natural skills in this fight," Charlo added.
As we reported earlier, the fight between Derevyanchenko and Charlo will take place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
It is scheduled for September 26.
