Ukraine's tennis player Elina Svitolina has beaten Round 2 of the Australian Open.
The Ukrainian's opponent was 16-year-old Coco Gauff, the talented and promising American who previously defeated Venus Williams and Naomi Osaka in a bright win streak.
"Despite hitting more winners than her rival (24-19), Gauff's higher unforced error at 23-15 proved to be her downfall. She also failed to convert any of her four break point opportunities, while Svitolina was clinical with hers, taking three of the four chances presented", wrote The Telegraph.
The Ukrainian defeated her American opponent (6:4, 6:3). Svitolina's next fixture in Round 3 will be with Russian Yulia Putintseva.
Earlier, Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk had an unsuccessful first match at the Australian Open.
Kostyuk faced Veronika Kudermetova from Russia. The Ukrainian tennis player was not able to showcase any resistance against her opponent in the first set. Kostyuk managed to pick herself up in the second one and make it more competitive, but her opponent managed to get the job done.
