Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina will no longer compete at this year's Australian Open.
In the 1/8 finals, Svitolina faced Jessica Pegula (USA). Her opponent showcased a world-class performance and reached the quarterfinals after going through almost a two-hour match.
Jessica Pegula (USA) - Elina Svitolina (Ukraine) 4:6, 6:3, 3:6.
"I just had a bad day. Nothing was going my way. It is hard to say exactly why it happened. It is a combination of factors. The opponent played well today, it was hard for me to catch the rhythm because of that. I did not feel that well on the court. It is sad because I played great prior to that. But today it was a day when nothing works out," said Svitolina.
As we reported earlier, on September 8, the national football team of Ukraine will have a friendly match with the national team of the Czech Republic.
It will the fifth meeting between the teams: Ukraine has previously scored two victories on its record, one draw, and one defeat.
The team is now looking forward to the selection for the World Cup and friendly matches with Bulgaria, Bahrain, Northern Ireland, and Cyprus.
