27 cases of coronavirus infection were observed at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo on July 30. Three athletes are among the infected as Kyodo reported.

“The games organizing committee reported 27 more infections linked with the games,” the message says.

It is noted that it is the highest daily count since the beginning of the count – July 1. The total amount of infection cases reached 220 people.

According to the organization committee, 18 citizens of Japan and nine foreigners are infected. Three athletes received positive tests. Besides, 15 contractors, four games-related officials, four volunteers and one member of the media are infected.

Due to the record-breaking number of coronavirus cases, the government of Japan offered to introduce the emergency state until August 31 as Reuters reported.

2020 Olympic Games will become the most unusual ever. The opening ceremony and competitions will take place at empty stadiums: fans are not allowed to admit to the event as the emergency state was announced in Tokyo due to the threat of the increase of the number of coronavirus infection cases.

On July 17, the organizers reported the first case of infection with coronavirus in the Olympic village; however, they reported that this person is not an athlete. Later, two footballers from South Africa received positive results of the PCR tests.

On July 23, the solemn opening ceremony of the Olympic Games took place in Tokyo, at 14:00 at Kyiv time.
