The Second European Games in Minsk are over. Ukraine's national team made it to top three in the medal count among 50 participating countries. Ihor Zhdanov, the Minister for Youth and Sport of Ukraine reported that on Facebook.
"And there's Ukraine, coming third in the Second European Games in Minsk. [We've got] 51 medals: phenomenal 16 gold, as well as 17 silver and 18 bronze", he admitted.
According to him, it was Ukraine's best performance in the European Games ever. The Minister thanked the entire team - the athletes, the coaches, doctors and the staff. Zhdanov underlined that such result retracts all rumors about Ukrainian sport being in decline, and hundreds of best athletes are leaving Ukraine.
"Friends, it's just a false statement. Ukraine does not lose, it wins!", the Minister wrote.
The Games took place in Minsk, Belarus, on June 21-30. The competitions make a part of qualification of athletes for 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
