Zolota Dzyga of the Ukrainian Film Academy award ceremony, which this year was held in an online format due to lockdown, announced all the winners. The event could be watched on the Academy YouTube channel.
Special award for contribution to Ukrainian cinema was received by actress Ada Rogovtseva. In addition, the director, author of the film My Thoughts Are Quiet, Antonio Lukic was awarded in the "Breakthrough of the Year" category.
The best film of the year also became My Thoughts Are Quiet. The Kruty 1918 got the Audience Award. The Best Director became Nariman Aliyev (Home). The best script - Valeriya Kalchenko, Antonio Lukic (My Thoughts Are Quiet). Best Cinematography - Ilkov Vadym (Volcano). Best soundtrack - M-Mermaid, Dakh Daughters (Hutsulka Ksenia). Best visual effects - Sushylnikov Artem, Ovcharenko Dmytro (Foxter and Max).
This year, Zolota Dzyga awarded in 22 nominations; two new categories appeared, such as "Visual Effects" and "Breakthrough of the Year".
Earlier Ukrainian film about Donbas conflict The Earth is Blue as an Orange won The Directing Award in the World Cinema Documentary section of the Sundance film festival. It also features in the contest program of Berlinale 2020. Besides, the film entered the contest program of the 70th Berlin IFF. The event is to be running from February 20 till March 1, 2020. This year, the Generation program includes 59 works in the contest; 29 world premieres and 11 debut films from 34 countries worldwide. The share of female film directors makes 58 percent.
