Today, during the consideration of the case of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine against Filaret, the National Guard used the tear gas against the activists, the journalist was affected, as ZIK reported.
At the session of the Sixth Appeal Court on the closing of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kyiv Patriarchate, the journalists were not allowed to enter the courtroom on extraneous reasons. Then, the National Guard soldiers simply used the brute force. Instead of protecting media workers, considering the dangerous aspects of their work, the law enforcers put them in danger. Moreover, the grave oppression of freedom of speech and obstruction of the activity of free media. The guarantor of the state should react to such offenses.
When the mass media came to the court session, they were not allowed to enter the courtroom on extraneous reasons, supposedly, they were late but it is not true. Moreover, one of the representatives of the court was not engaged in the dialogue with media; such behavior was left without explanations.
“Nobody started the dialogue with us, nobody from the leadership came to us, despite the leaders of the National Guard who tried to use the force against us,” Zhyznevska underlined.
The court session on the case Orthodox Church of Ukraine against Filaret had to be open; however, the National Guard soldiers did not allow media and public in and used the force against them.
“We were not allowed in the court session room: neither media nor priests. The priests started to insist to let them in; the National Guard started to resist; I was in the first rows so I felt that onslaught and resistance. They used tear gas against all of us. A few persons got serious burns of eyes. Personally I got the burns of an eye and right hand,” Zhyznevska said.
She admitted: the tears were streaming the face, and even the trachea burned”. However, she decided to refuse from the hospitalization to cover the events near the court building.
“We decided that we would just buy the drops and everything will be ok,” she noted.
The activists also suffered, particularly, one of the priests got the burns of both eyes. However, despite this fact, nobody from the representative of the court called the ambulance, ZIK journalist also did it.
“I would like to say that personally I called the ambulance; I know that the channel also called it because they saw everything in the broadcasting. The law enforcers did not call, moreover, nobody came out. All background information closed, nobody talked with people, the law enforcers arrived and detained five people according to various information. The police promised to come to me as to the representative of mass media but nobody contacted,” ZIK correspondent noted.
She underlined: as far as she was in the first rows and the scrum took place, she had no possibility to left the center of the events. Moreover, the journalist should do the work.
“I hope that the guarantor of the Constitution will respond to the events somehow and we will see some results,” Zhyznevska underlined.
