A rally is taking place in Zhytomyr, northern Ukraine, where the people came to support three Ukrainian TV channels that claim pressure by the government.
Rally members demand that President Volodymyr Zelensky stop pressure on 112 Ukraine, NewsOne and Zik TV channels. "We demand that the government stop deciding what do we watch and what we don't watch. We want to watch fair news, we want to have our own choice of channels to watch", the protesters say.
On September 26, the National Council for TV and Radio Broadcasting made the unprecedented decision, stripping 112 Ukraine TV channel of the digital broadcasting licenses. In spite of this decisive move, the channel still can be reached via the satellite, cable networks and the Internet. Reporters and hosts of TV channels held the solidarity rally against censorship; they stopped active broadcasting for 30 minutes.
European Parliament members judged the step of the Ukrainian government, promising to pass the information to European officials. Members of the TV channels passed the appeal to the U.S., stating that freedom of speech is under pressure.
