President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the issue on demolishing of bust of USSR Marshal Georgy Zhukov should be solved by Kharkiv Mayor Georgy Kernes. Besides, Zelensky stated that Russia should stop to interfere in the inner affairs of Ukraine, as 112 Ukraine reported citing Zelensky’s Spokesperson Yulia Mendel.
“It concerns not only the memorial to Zhukov but also the Zhukov lane, which still exists. Volodymyr Zelensky urges the authorities of Kharkiv to solve this legal conflict as the clear discussion with society should take place. The decision, which will be acceptable for each of the sides, should be made,” Mendel said.
She emphasized that “Kharkiv Mayor should take responsibility as the main arbiter in this situation but not take one of the sides.”
“We also heard that Russia has begun to comment on this situation with the demolishing of the bust. Here, Volodymyr Zelensky wants to emphasize that it is another demonstration that Russia interferes in the inner affairs of the sovereign state and urges not to do it anymore,” she added.
On June 2, representatives of a number of pro-Ukrainian organizations and parties demolished the bust of Marshal of the USSR Georgy Zhukov in Kharkiv.
The Russian Foreign Ministry is sure that the demolishing of the bust of Marshal Georgy Zhukov is the challenge for new President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky. The Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation stated that the new Ukrainian authority should find and prosecute vandals, who demolished the bust.
