The return of persons held on both sides and release of Ukrainian sailors were the key issues of the telephone talk on July 11
The key question that Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky is going to continue discussing with the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, is releasing Ukrainian sailor detained by Russian authorities. Volodymyr Zelensky reported that during his meeting with the mothers of the sailors in Kryviy Rih, Strana online outlet reports.
“We are now fundamentally dealing with this matter in order to get out sailors back. The crown doesn’t change me, because the lives of these guys are the most important. My key question for him (Putin) was if they are ready to give them back to us. Give us back all our people,” Ukrainian leader said.
Release of the sailors was the central topic of the talk with Putin, the President underlined. The telephone conversation was the first interaction between the two leaders.
According to Zelensky, he decided on the telephone talk with Putin, as he stands ready for anything to better their lot of those detained.
During his meeting with the mothers of the sailors, Zelensky has also declared his readiness to implement his promises in any format – Minsk, Normandy, etc.
As we reported earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky had a phone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin for the first time on July 11. The conversation happened upon the initiative of the Ukrainian side.
Later, it was specified that the politicians discussed the release of 24 Ukrainian sailors detained in the Kerch Strait in November 2018.
Putin and Zelensky came to an agreement to continue the work on the expert level. Besides, state leaders talked about continued cooperation in the Normandy format.
