President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the fire at the Odesa Tokyo Star hotel, saying that he would personally see that those guilty are punished in accordance with the law. He wrote that on his Facebook page.

"Odesa. Tokyo Star. At night, we lost eight lives. Ten people were injured, four of them in critical condition. And this is not due to war and shelling, but because of criminal negligence and ignoring the basic fire safety standards, because of the neglect of human life. This will be put to an end. Not only the direct culprits of the fire will answer for this. Vadym Chorny, the owner of the so-called hotel, will be held accountable. I will personally ensure that the punishment complies with the norms of law and requirements of justice," Zelensky wrote.

He expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims. The president also thanked the rescuers, law enforcement officers and the inhabitants of Odesa, who sheltered the rescued guests of this hotel.
