Geek Journal, a famous Ukrainian Youtube channel with movie and series reviews, is under threat of being blocked. The reason for that is four complaints of alleged violation of copyright from the 1+1 TV channel. The creators of Geek Journal reported this on their social networks.
According to the TV channel, youtubers illegally used 1+1 copyrighted materials in their reviews. Whereas the creators of the Geek Journal claim to adhere to the principles of content fair use. In support of their words, youtubers cite the fact that they have never had such problems due to the use of the content of the largest media corporations like Warner Bros. or Disney, although they constantly released reviews of their films and series, including superhero films from Marvel and DC. In addition, Geek Journal received all four strikes simultaneously after the release of a critical review video about the history of the 1+1 TV channel.
Geek Journal will appeal all complaints. However, in case Youtube rejects it, on January 28 the channel will be removed from the platform. As of January 22nd, the channel had just over 100,000 subscribers and could count on Youtube's "silver button".
Earlier, the administration of YouTube officially suspended the channel of U.S. President Donald Trump for a week.
The service reported that Trump's account was blocked due to violations of company policy amid fears of additional violence after the attack on the U.S. Capitol.
