The world's largest transport An-225 Mriya developed by Antonov state enterprise is going to join the military parade timed to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence. Press office of Ukroboronprom's press office reported that on August 20.
Mriya will fly over Khreshchatyk, Kyiv's central street. It will close the rear of the aviation column consisting of military helicopters, fighters, close support aircraft, bombers and transport aircraft.
An-225 was created for transportation of Buran space shuttle and parts of Energy space launcher vehicle. It could also be used as a part of multi-purpose aerospace transporting system. The An-225 first flew on 21 December 1988. It was on static display at the Paris Air Show in 1989, and it flew during the public days at the Farnborough Air Show in 1990. In September 2001, the aircraft set 124 world and 214 national records.
Mriya already took part in the first rehearsal of the parade on August 18.
The military parade timed to the Independence Day will be held in the Ukrainian capital on August 24. Ukrainian aviation and aircraft from partnet countries will fly over Kyiv on that day.
