The world is in the early stages of a new wave of the coronavirus pandemic, and Delta strain is becoming dominant. This was stated by the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the press service of the WHO reports.
According to Ghebreyesus, as increasing vaccination rates in Europe and North America started to take effect, the world saw sustained declines in cases and deaths.
"Unfortunately, those trends have now reversed, and we are now in the early stages of a third wave," he said.
Ghebreyesus drew attention to the increase in coronavirus morbidity and mortality in the world last week.
"On June 24, we sent four tests of people suspected of having a Delta strain to Kyiv and Kyiv to a European laboratory for testing. Two results came positive, we expect two more results. We don't know when they will be," the director of the regional infectious diseases hospital in Uzhgorod Mykhailo Polyak said.
The results of the tests, according to the director of the regional infectious diseases hospital, were received today, July 14.
