The famous carnival parade started in Brazil. 12 samba schools and 42,000 participants are performing dressed in extravagant costumes. Participants and guests are dancing right on the street.

This was reported by AFP agency.

However, there were some curiosities. Literally in the last minutes before opening Rio Mayor Marcelo Crivella refused to participate in the ceremony. He referred to the wife’s illness. The event began without him present.

Heavy rain occurred in another Brazilian city São Paulo, where the competition of samba schools were held on the eve. The Eastern part of the city sank so much that the vehicles parked outside came under water.

Protests against the current unpopular Brazilian president Michel Temer also took place. He came after even less popular Dilma Rousseff.

As it is known, carnival will last 5 days.
