The World Health Organization claims that a new, even more, contagious Indian strain of coronavirus could spread in Europe soon. Hans Kluge, the WHO European regional bureau director said so as cited by RBC-Ukraine.
This particular strain already replaced other strains in a number of countries.
"We've seen this before. Last summer, the cases of disease gradually increased in the younger age groups, then they moved to older age groups, which led to a destructive outbreak, lockdown, and lots of deaths in autumn and winter 2020", he said.
The new mutation of the disease may affect even those with immunity from it.
As it was reported earlier, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has presented a classification of several dozen coronavirus mutations that had been detected worldwide to date. Mutated viruses were divided into categories: variant of concern (VOC), variant of interest (VOI), or variant under monitoring.
