WHO urges to enhance quarantine in Indonesia due to new outbreak of Covid-19

The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged Indonesia to enhance quarantine restrictions due to the new wave of coronavirus infections caused by the spread of new variants of Covid-19 as AP reported.

The WHO in its report noted that the sharp increase of the number of hospitalized people in Indonesia is a global problem. It demands stricter measures in the health and social issues spheres, including large-scale social restrictions.

“With increased transmission due to variants of concern, urgent action is needed to contain the situation in many provinces,” it says.

Representatives of health bodies of Indonesia stated that the Delta strain of coronavirus was found in Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, and East Java provinces. All of them are located on Yava island, the most popular out of 17,000 islands of Indonesia.

“We need vaccination acceleration in order to achieve communal immunity, which we hope can stop the COVID-19 spread,” President of Indonesia Joko Widodo said.

As we reported, the Institute of Mathematical Machines and Systems Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine stated that the new wave of the coronavirus pandemic can start in Ukraine already by the end of summer if the Covid strain Delta will not be taken under control. It actively circulates in Russia.
