The World Health Organization responded to the recent tragedy in Zaporizhya region

"Saddened to hear of the tragic fire at the infectious diseases hospital in Zaporozhye, caring for Covid-19 patients. My deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones. We stand in solidarity with Ukraine and The Ministry of Healthcare of Ukraine, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured". Hans Kluge, the Director of the European Bureau of the WHO left this message on Twitter

The fire that took place in the small hours of February 4 at Zaporizhya regional infectional hospital occurred because of the ignition of medical equipment. Volodymyr Shynkarenko, the Chief Medical Officer reported that as quoted by local outlet 061.

"Ambulance crews and the hospital staff evacuated the patients, which stayed in the intensive care. Seven people were taken to other medical establishments of the city. Besides, two workers of the hospital suffered from burns and were hospitalized. The doctor of hospital ER showed courage and heroism, thanks to his actions people survived. Preliminary reasons for the fire will be sorted out by the investigation team, but we confirm that the ignition of medical equipment took place", Shynkarenko said.
