The World Health Organization (WHO) has sent the experts to China for consideration of coronavirus origin; however official Beijing did not authorize their entrance to the country, as Reuters reported citing WHO Head Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
“Today we learned that Chinese officials have not yet finalized the necessary permissions for the team’s arrival in China,” he stated.
According to Ghebreyesus, the visit was developed together with Beijing and the WHO head signaled that this mission is the priority for the WHO.
“We trust and hope that is just a logistic and bureaucratic issue that can be resolved very quickly,” Emergencies Chief Mike Ryan said.
The mission was announced in December. It was stated that the WHO plans to send a team of 10 international scientists to study the origin of Covid-19. The goal of the research is to find out when the virus has started to circulate and whether or not it appeared in Wuhan. It is expected that the mission will last four or five weeks.
As we reported, the WHO stated that the current number of countries where the vaccination campaign started already exceeds 30. People from high-risk groups are getting inoculated.
