As of now, the coronavirus pandemic is accelerating around the world as a number of countries have decided to reopen their economies. It was stated by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director-general of the World Health Organization, CNBC reports.
“Although many countries have made some progress, globally, the pandemic is actually speeding up. We all want this to be over. We all want to get on with our lives, but the hard reality is that this is not even close to being over,” he said.
According to data published by the WHO, the virus has infected more than 10.1 million people around the world and killed more than 502,000 people so far.
As we reported earlier, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas does not exclude the possibility of re-closure of borders in some EU countries due to recent spikes of coronavirus incidence.
"Another border closure cannot be ruled out if the number of infections in one EU region is significantly higher than in another," he stated.
However, Mass also noted that such a decision needed coordination.
