Wearing masks contributes to a significant reduction in the incidence of coronavirus, The Guardian reports, referring to international research data.

Scientists from a number of countries, including the United Kingdom, have concluded that wearing masks is the most effective measure to combat the spread of Covid-19. Scientists also note the effectiveness of distance and hand washing.

“Results from more than 30 studies from around the world were analysed in detail, showing a statistically significant 53% reduction in the incidence of Covid with mask wearing and a 25% reduction with physical distancing. Handwashing also indicated a substantial 53% reduction in Covid incidence, although this was not statistically significant after adjusting for the small number of handwashing studies included,” the article reads.

Due to the effectiveness of wearing masks, keeping distance and washing hands, it is important to keep them as protective measures along with vaccination of the population.

However, scientists from Monash University in the Australian state of Victoria and the University of Edinburgh note that measures such as lockdown and the closure of borders, schools and offices should be investigated separately. In this regard, it is necessary to assess the potential negative impact of such restrictions on people.

As it was reported, 20,591 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Ukraine on November 17.

Thus, since the beginning of the pandemic, 3 million 284 thousand 008 people have been infected with the coronavirus, 79 506 (+752 during the day) have died and 2 million 704 thousand 217 (+19 633) have recovered.
