Kharkiv industrial enterprise «Vostok-N», which specializes in development and production of medical equipment created a mechanical tourniquet with a time indicator to stop arterial bleeding.

The development was fully supported by businessman Vladimir Manukian.

One of the main developers Andrei Kovalev, said that this tourniquet were developed according to NATO and EU standards, so it can be used by military doctors to treat wounded soldiers, as well as in emergency situations.

«The main feature of our invention is as follows: if a person releases the handle of the tourniquet, the tape will not loosen on its own and bleeding will not resume. Also there are some special technical solutions that allow applying the tourniquet with only one hand. I would like to mention that it is crucially important when a person uses tourniquet on his own, or loses consciousness from the pain shock or significant loss of blood», - told Andrei Kovalev.

Kovalev added that this tourniquet may be widely used in civil medicine. It is not only provide full and dosed compression on the limb, but also do not injure the skin and tissues.

It is favorably distinguished from similar products by its small size and and the fact that all parts that may come in contact with the skin are covered with plastic and softening materials. This tourniquet has a special time indicator with a scale of 24 hours. Its small size and weight allow to put it in any medicine cabinet.

The founder of the «Renaissance Medico» charity foundation, Vladimir Manukian suggests that the combination of functionality, quality and price will make it very popular both in hospitals, surgical clinics, emergency medical stations and also in civil defence units when providing first aid.

«I would like to see this invention in our hospitals and in the first-aid kits. Our medicine should become more technologically advanced. Believe me, ukrainian inventions are not inferior to foreign counterparts, moreover they are much more accessible to the people», - concluded Manukian.
