US Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed that Washington is going to improve Ukraine's energy security - specifically, by cutting the risks related to the Nord Stream 2. The press office of the U.S. Department of the State cited him.

Blinken made the respective statement during the meeting with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky during the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow.

"Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy today in Glasgow on the margins of COP26. Secretary Blinken reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.  He welcomed Ukraine’s steps to address corruption and underscored that, together with our allies and partners, the United States would continue to reinforce Ukrainian energy security, including by reducing the risks posed by the Nord Stream 2 pipeline", spokesperson Ned Price said.

Gazprom company has refused to book the extra transit capacity across Ukraine and Poland in the first quarter of the next year. This is confirmed by the results of the auction of booking on GSA Platform and Regional Booking Platform, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

The Russian energy monopolist chooses monthly contracts over the long-term booking.

"Liberalization of the European gas market led to the refusal from long-term transit deals. It was replaced with transparent auction booking to make the extra revenues for booking the extra capacities for the gas price impossible", reads the message.

Russian Gazprom cut the volume of gas transit to the EU across Ukraine since November 1; now, the volume amounts to 57 million cubic meters.
