A federal website is being launched in the United States, where people can order free tests for Covid-19. It will start operating on January 19, Voice of America reports.

Bookings will be limited to four free tests per household per month. Tests will be delivered to your home free of charge.

Tests will ship within 7-12 days of ordering via the United States Postal Service (USPS). The post office specified that the delivery time for the tests would be from 1 to 3 days.

The idea for a nationwide website is a response to the criticism the Biden administration has faced over long testing queues and American complaints about a lack of tests.

The White House estimates that the cost of the first phase of the home test distribution campaign is $4 billion.

Meanwhile, cannabis compounds can prevent Covid-19 infection, a study by scientists from the University of Oregon (USA) shows.

"The two compounds commonly found in hemp -- called cannabigerolic acid, or CBGA, and cannabidiolic acid, or CBDA -- were identified during a chemical screening effort as having potential to combat coronavirus, researchers from Oregon State University said. In the study, they bound to spike proteins found on the virus and blocked a step the pathogen uses to infect people," the message reads.

It is noted that the researchers tested the effect of the compounds on the Alpha and Beta variants of the coronavirus in the laboratory.
