A disclosed report of the US intelligence community on the origins of Covid-19 is unscientific and has no credibility, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said in a statement on October 31, Reuters reports.
According to the source, Wang said that "a lie repeated a thousand times is still a lie", and added that US intelligence services "have a reputation for fraud and deception."
"The tracing of the origins of the novel coronavirus is a serious and complex issue that should and can only be researched through the cooperation of global scientists," he added.
China denies allegations that the virus was leaked from a specialized laboratory in Wuhan, where Covid-19 was first detected in late 2019. A joint study by China and the World Health Organization (WHO) virtually rules out the theory of the laboratory origin of coronavirus.
As it was reported on January 14, specialists from the World Health Organization (WHO) arrived in Wuhan, the administrative center of the central Chinese province of Hubei, with the intentions of research of the origins of COVID-19. Soon after, the experts have made public the results of the visit to Wuhan. Researchers at the World Health Organization have concluded that the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan in December 2019 was much wider than previously thought, and Covid-19 itself was circulating in China long before that.
Later, the WHO created a new group of experts by the name of Scientific Advisory Group for Origins of Novel Pathogens (SAGO), which should work to determine the origin of the coronavirus.
