The US State Department has announced a reward of up to $10 million for information about the leaders of the hacker group DarkSide, the press service of the US Embassy in Ukraine reports.

The United States has also announced a reward of up to $5 million for information that will help arrest people in any country who seek to participate in the group's operations.

"We're committed to protecting ransomware victims worldwide  from exploitation by cybercriminals,"the statement reads.

As it was reported, on May 7 US fuel pipeline operator Colonial Pipeline has temporarily halted all pipeline operations after a cyberattack.

The investigation later established that the cyber attack on Colonial Pipeline's computer systems, which led to the shutdown of a vital pipeline in the United States, was carried out by a criminal group of DarkSide hackers. This gang positions itself as "Robin Hood hackers". DarkSide claims that it does not attack hospitals and nursing homes, educational or government facilities, and donates part of its "proceeds" to charity.

Darkside, the group of hackers behind this month’s shutdown of the US Colonial Pipeline, received at least $90 million in bitcoin ransom payments from dozens of victims before it disbanded last week.
