US citizens were advised to refrain from traveling to Ukraine against the background of Russia's military activity on the Ukrainian border, the US Department of State informs.

"The Department of State continues to advise U.S. citizens to reconsider travel to Ukraine due to increased threats from Russia," the message reads.

The agency draws attention to the fact that information about further unusual Russian military activity near the borders of Ukraine, in the occupied Crimea and Donbas continues to be received. The Americans were reminded that security conditions could change almost without notice.

"U.S. citizens in Ukraine should be aware that further Russian military action anywhere in Ukraine would severely impact the U.S. Embassy’s ability to provide consular services, including assistance to U.S. citizens in departing the country," the Embassy added.

The agency also recommended that Americans regularly check local and international news and news channels on social media.

As it was reported, Democrats in the US Senate have prepared a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation in case of an invasion of Ukraine. The new law would impose broad sanctions on senior Russian military and government officials.
