Ukraine is now on the worst path in terms of the spread of coronavirus; if the situation in zones of active spread is not taken under control, 20,000 people could die in this country by the end of the year. Kyiv School of Economics, KSE, reported that on October 15.
"If the current situation does not change, in two weeks, in November, the daily number of newly detected cases will make 10,000. The load on the medical system will be the utmost, and the system will only last if the government imposes complex restrictions in the areas with active outbreak", said Yuriy Hanychenko, the Senior Researcher of Economic and Political Studies in the Kyiv School of Economics.
The institution recommends complex quarantine restrictions for the period of 14 days - in the areas of active morbidity rate. Hospitals are supposed to prepare for the peak load; the frequency of testing should increase, too.
According to the KSE, Ukraine is among leaders in Europe in terms of the Covid-19 incidence. "Ukraine is seventh in terms of newly detected daily cases of Covid-19 and fourth in terms of mortality. In terms of testing and detection of Covid-19 patients in Ukraine, it ranks last in Europe", said Pavlo Kovtonyuk, the leader of the KSE's Centre for Economics of Healthcare.
