A new strain of coronavirus has been detected in the south of France. It has infected 12 people, as Heute reported.

According to the newspaper, an unknown variant of Covid-19 has been found in Frenchmen returning from Cameroon. Doctors admit that the causative agent of this strain is widespread in the African country. Tests revealed an "atypical combination of mutations" in all those infected.

The new variant is designated B.1.640.2 and was detected by Marseille health officials. The study by French scientists said that 46 mutations were identified in the new variant. The level of threat or contagiousness of this strain is unknown.

"Flurona" is not a new strain of coronavirus like Omicron and Delta. There is not yet enough data to predict whether it might be more dangerous to patients. Nevertheless, experts warn that it may worsen symptoms.

As we reported, Israel will start offering a fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine to people aged 60 and over, becoming the first country in the world to widely disseminate the extra jab to fight off the omicron strain.
