It is reported that 22 million of the 39 million inhabitants of Afghanistan are in need of urgent aid. It is necessary 4.4 billion euros to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in the country.
The collected funds will be used, among other things, to accelerate the construction of temporary housing and access to drinking water, and to combat disease and starvation. Experts believe that this year 4.7 million people in Afghanistan will face malnutrition.
The UN noted that about 550 million euros are needed to feed the 5.7 million Afghans who have fled to neighboring countries. The total amount is unprecedented among similar campaigns of the organization of a single country.
The US authorities have already responded to the appeal and promised to allocate more than 300 million dollars. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) explained that it is a question of financing, food supplies, and support in the field of health.
