The United Nations encourages countries to participate more actively in resettlement programs. This is reported by the UN News Center.
"To date, it is necessary to resettle 277,000 refugees to the third countries who have found temporary shelter mainly in Greece, Italy, Middle East or Africa," the statement said.
The UN noted that only a few countries expressed their willingness to accept refugees, and in general, the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees received proposals for the resettlement in 2018 and 2019 of only 13,000 people.
In total, 37 states are participating in the projects on resettlement of refugees.
