The authorities of the occupied Crimea handed the refined charges to the Deputy Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov and are preparing to submit the case to the "court". The lawyer Emil Kurbedinov wrote this on Facebook.
"Today the so called Crimean authorities made and delivered a refined resolution on the indictment, adding the results of linguistic examination to Ilmi Umerov. Mykolay Semena received back part of his belongings seized during a search", the lawyer wrote.
As reported by RBK Ukraine, Ilmi Umerov’s daughter Aishe specified the information.
"Umerov has been presented with unspecified charges, adding to them the results of the examinations (linguistic and psychiatric). As lawyers explained to us, this procedure is the preparation for the transfer of the case file to the court. The article remains the same and the wording of the charges is the same: Calls to violate Russia's territorial integrity", wrote Umerova.
Ilmi Umerov was arrested by Russian authorities on May 12, 2014 after protesting illegal Russian occupation of the Crimean Peninsula and the repression of native Crimean Tatars. For publicly speaking out against Russia’s illegal occupation, Russian authorities have charged Mr. Umerov with “public calls to action aimed at violating Russian territorial integrity,” which can carry a prison sentence of five years. More alarmingly, on August 18, 2016, Russian authorities took Mr. Umerov to Psychiatric Hospital No. 1 in Simferopol, where he was held against his will.
On September 7 the highly-ranked Crimean Tatar official has been released from the psychiatric clinic. It was proved that he is mentally sane.
